Metropolitan Stevedore Company
Ed is the Director of Risk Management for the Nautilus family of companies. The Nautilus family of companies includes Metropolitan Stevedore Company, Metro Cruise Services LLC, and Metro Risk Management LLC. Nautilus is a premier contract stevedore and terminal operator for the bulk, breakbulk, and passenger trades, as well as a third party administrator of workers' compensation claims. With operations in over thirty locations nationwide, the Nautilus family of companies have provided valuable services to the maritime industry for over 90 years.
Ed brings valuable experience and expertise to Nautilus and marine insurance. Ed's responsibilities include the evaluation and procurement of all insurance coverages for Nautilus; assessment and determination of risk for all Nautilus accounts; development and implementation of policy to combat risk; and adjusting and oversight of adjustment in a variety of marine and general liability claims.
A graduate with honors from the California Maritime Academy in 1995, Ed has unique experience in the field of safety, regulatory compliance, risk management, and insurance. Ed served as chair of the local maritime industry safety committee in ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, the nation's largest. Ed has provided testimony to various federal and state governmental agencies for various safety, environmental, and security regulations, as well as testimony in litigated insurance claims. Ed is currently a director of the Los Angeles chapter of the Chartered Property Casualty Underwriters Society Society, as well as a current member of the Marine Underwriters of Southern California. In May, 2012, Ed gave a presentation to a joint session of both organizations on the topic of stevedoring risk.
Ed has sought to improve the depth and scope of his knowledge through the pursuit and attainment of multiple insurance professional designations. These specialty designations cover such topics as risk management, claims, underwriting, and reinsurance. In fact, Ed was recently recognized as obtaining the highest score in the nation for all those pursuing the Associate in Marine Insurance Management ("AMIM") in 2012. Ed's years of claims-handling, operational, and litigation experience allow him to maintain a unique perspective on liability.
Ed is well-respected in the maritime community for his knowledge and candidness and is often sought out by other employers for his opinion.
